India will be contesting in the Boxing tournament of the Tokyo Olympics 2024. Nine Boxers from India will represent the country in the current edition of the Olympics. After missing out on all medals in the 2016 Olympics, the Indian contingent will be eyeing the podium in Tokyo Olympics 2024. Tokyo Olympics 2024 India Boxing Team

The Indian Boxing Contingent will have 9 boxers at the Tokyo Olympics, the largest ever contingent for Indian Boxing. The team consists of 5 male and 4 female boxers.

 Indian men’s boxing side comprises of current World no.1 Amit Panghal (52kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Vikas Krishan (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg), and Satish Kumar (+91kg).

Indian Women’s boxing team includes 6 times World Champion and Indian Boxing legend Mary Kom(51kg), Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), and Pooja Rani (75kg).

  • Amit Panghal, Satish Kumar, Simranjit Kaur, and Lovlina Borgohain have received byes into the pre-quarterfinals of Tokyo Olympics 2024.
  • Amit Panghal will play his first match directly on July 31 in the last-16-stage against the winner between Botswana’s Mahommed Rajab Otukile and Colombia’s Herney Rivas Martinez.
  • IndianBoxing legend MC Mary Kom (51kg) will commence her Tokyo Olympics campaign against  Dominican boxer Miguelina Hernandez on July 25 followed by Colombian third seed Lorena Victoria Valencia
  • Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) will face Germany’s Nadine Apetz in her opening clash.
  • Pooja Rani (75kg) will face Algeria’s Ichrak Chaib in her opening match and will square off against China’s second seed Li Qian if she progresses.
  • Satish Kumar (+91kg) will face Jamaica’s Ricardo Brown in the pre-quarters and top seeded Bakhodir Jalolov of Uzbekistan if he qualifies.
  • Simranjit Kaur (60kg) will lock heads against Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee in the pre-quarters.

Venue

Ryōgoku Kokugikan Sumo Stadium, Heritage zone, will host all Boxing matches of the Tokyo Olympics 2024.
