Say goodbye to your Christmas tradition
The Telegraph reveals that matches will no longer be playing on December 28th this 2024/23 season. This matchday has been the tradition in the Premier League from the beginning until now. The league round on the fourth day of Christmas is dropped because the clubs and the Premier League fear that it will burn the players out if the Christmas program is too tough right after the World Cup in Qatar.
As a result, there will not be any matches played in the Premier League between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve this year. The Christmas program will, therefore, only consist of league rounds on Boxing Day (2nd day of Christmas), New Year’s Eve and January 2nd. The English Football League will only play three league rounds on its Christmas program. They will run league rounds on December 26th, December 29th, and January 1st. The 3rd round of the FA Cup will be played the weekend of 7-8th of January.
The national team players have just finished the 2024/22 season and will therefore only have three weeks of holiday this summer. Moving one of the rounds this Christmas is one of the measures taken to give the players more rest in the middle of the season. This summer’s training matches start in less than a month, and the Premier League season kicks off on August 6th. 16 league rounds will be played until the weekend of 12-13th November.
Liverpool’s new investment
In the middle of June, Liverpool confirmed that they had signed Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez (22) from Benfica. The striker states, “I am very happy and pleased to be in Liverpool. It is a huge club”. Transition guru Fabrizio Romano claimed that the purchase would be valued at around 80 million euros but could increase by another 20 million. However, we have not gotten the exact numbers yet.
Núñez is expected to be a direct replacement for Sadio Mané, who wants new challenges after six seasons together with Liverpool. Bayern Munich is the favorite to secure Mané. This would make the Germans more willing to sell Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona. We will just have to wait and see how this all pans out.
The Uruguayan made his definitive breakthrough last season with 34 goals in 41 games for Benfica. Six of them in the Champions League, including a goal in each settlement of the quarter-final against Liverpool. Like Mané, Núñez can play both midfield and left wing.
Haaland is going to Manchester City
Another young talent that has been welcomed to a new club this season is the Norwegian 22-year-old Erling Braut Haaland. Former England profiles Gary Lineker and Jamie Carragher believe it is a “victory” for the Premier League that Haaland will play for Manchester City this year. Tottenham star Harry Kane, on the other hand, is looking forward to the challenge of becoming the top scorer. “A groundbreaking moment for the Premier League. This is the first time a young superstar, coveted by all clubs, has come to an English club over the Spanish giants. “Gary Lineker, former England top scorer and current TV personality, on Twitter.”
In England, football experts and writers are excited about how Haaland will join Pep Guardiola’s squad, which won the Premier League last season. Guardiola has often played without a classic striker. Manchester City tried to get England and Tottenham captain Harry Kane last summer, but it did not work out. Now Kane is looking forward to a fierce duel to become the top scorer.
Tottenham’s investment in Bissouma, Perisic, and Forster
Tottenham and Brighton have agreed on a transfer for Yves Bissouma (25). Mali’s national team player had 12 months left on his contract with Brighton and is now being sold for 25 million pounds, according to British media. He plays as a midfielder, and he is now ready to take on new adventures together with his teammates at Tottenham. Bissouma is the London club’s third reinforcement this summer after Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
Ivan Perisic has been linked with several clubs in the last six months, but in the end, it was Tottenham who secured the battle for the 33-year-old’s signature. In the big Italian club, the experienced Croatian was used as a left wing back in Conte’s system, and it is probably such a role he will also get in Spurs. Tottenham will not pay a transfer fee for the player, according to Football.London, Perisic has secured a two-year contract worth approximately 5.1 million pounds. This corresponds to a weekly salary of almost 100,000 pounds. It is expected that Perisic will be one of many new players at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
Tottenham confirmed in the middle of June that they are bringing in the experienced goalkeeper, Fraser Forster. The Englishman will transfer for free as his contract with Southampton expires this summer. Fraser has a long career at the top level and is, among other things, booked with 134 Premier League matches and six international matches for England.
